Unit 6 · Logical Reasoning Paper 1 · 22 October 2022 Evening

Given below are two statements:
Statement I: In classical logic, the universal proposition implies the truth of its corresponding particular proposition.
Statement II: Two propositions that cannot both be true and cannot both be false are called contraries.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:

Correct answer: C. Statement I is true but Statement II is falseकथन I सत्य है, लेकिन कथन II असत्य है

Explanation

Statement I is true: in the traditional (Aristotelian) square of opposition, subalternation holds – if A is true, I is true; if E is true, O is true. Statement II is false: propositions that can be neither both true nor both false are contradictories; contraries cannot both be true but can both be false. Hence Statement I is true but Statement II is false.
