Unit 9 · People, Development and Environment Paper 1 · 12 October 2022 Morning

Given below are two statements:
Statement I: Chronic toxicity caused due to hazardous wastes is not difficult to determine.
Statement II: Chronic effects may be seen immediately after the exposure.
In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:

Correct answer: B. Both Statement I and Statement II are incorrectकथन I तथा कथन II दोनों ग़लत हैं

Explanation

Chronic toxicity results from prolonged low-dose exposure, and because of the long latency and many confounding factors it is in fact very difficult to determine — so Statement I is incorrect. Chronic effects by definition appear only after long or repeated exposure; effects seen immediately are acute, not chronic — so Statement II is also incorrect. Hence both statements are incorrect.
