Unit 5 · Mathematical Reasoning and Aptitude Paper 1 · 21 October 2022 Evening

Certain number of birds are sitting on two trees A and B. If a bird from the tree B goes to the tree A, then no. of birds on the two trees become equal. However, if a bird from tree A goes to tree B, then the no. of birds on the tree B becomes twice that of A. How many birds are there on the trees A and B, respectively?

Correct answer: C. 5, 7

Explanation

Let A = a, B = b. From the first condition b − 1 = a + 1, so b = a + 2. From the second, b + 1 = 2(a − 1), so a + 3 = 2a − 2, giving a = 5 and b = 7. Check: 6 and 6; 4 and 8. Hence 5, 7.मान लीजिए A = a, B = b। पहली शर्त से b − 1 = a + 1, अतः b = a + 2। दूसरी शर्त से b + 1 = 2(a − 1), अतः a + 3 = 2a − 2, जिससे a = 5 और b = 7।
