Direction : (Q. No. 33-36) Read the following Hindi passage carefully and answer the questions that follow. (The passage is printed only in Hindi in the question paper; the English rendering below is a close translation supplied for the site.)

The new is certainly a value. But continuity too is a value. Literature fortunately never dares to choose one of the two, because it knows that one is not possible without the other. Tradition cannot stay alive without renewing itself. Man lives in both dimensions: in history and in the eternal. He changes and yet remains. Both dimensions are contained within man — they are not separate or isolated. Much changes: society, circumstances, economic dealings, human relations and their weave; yet love, jealousy, attachment and envy, attraction and aversion, joy and sorrow remain the same. When a new vision arises, it necessarily seeks a new craft for itself. For the sake of analysis we may separate content and craft, but in the composition itself they are one and indivisible. The new finally gains its validity by being absorbed into continuity, but it also changes that continuity somewhere. After the intervention of the new and its absorption, continuity is no longer what it was. We forget that what looks old today was once new. One cannot become timeless without being contemporary, yet one cannot become timeless by staying penned inside contemporaneity alone. The new springs from the courage to grasp its own time directly and in its changed details, but if it cannot see beyond that time it cannot last. That which is timeless keeps becoming new at every time.

Correct answer: B. Man's society is changeable with time.

Explanation

The passage states that much changes — society, circumstances, economic dealings, human relations — while love, jealousy, attachment, joy and sorrow remain the same. So society changes with time (2) is true, while (1) is false. It also says man lives in both history and eternity, and that continuity itself is altered by the new, so (3) and (4) are false.
