The researchers assumed that older adults are different from younger adults in their suicidal ideation and in their reasons for thinking about committing suicide because of differences in life experiences and coping competence. Hence, they used cross-sectional research and recruited 150 older adults (60–95 years) who were matched with 150 younger adults (17–34 years) on gender, ethnicity, religion and self-reported health status. Beck's scale for suicidal ideation was used to measure suicidal ideation. They used a 't' test for comparison of variables and found no significant difference. According to Siegler, neither cross-sectional nor longitudinal studies provide much information about how those changes occur over time. He discussed a method that involves carefully observing behaviour during periods when rapid change is occurring and collecting both quantitative and qualitative information.
A potential problem with cross sectional research is that there may be other variables that are confounded with age. This problem is called
- Habitat effect
- Cohort effect
- Interrupted effcect
- Protective effect
The combination of cross sectional and longitudinal research Is called
- Time series research
- Correlational research
- Sequential research
- Thematic research
What is the method Siegler discussed for studying the process of change?
- Macrogenetic method
- Exogenetic method
- Chromogenetic method
- Micro genetic method
When null hypothesis is false and we are accepting it then we make
- Type I error
- Type II error
- Error of falsifiability
- Acceptance error
Motivation is the driving force behind human activities. Researchers identified three components of motivation. Motivation originates externally or internally, is defined by action or non-action and can be categorised as extrinsic, identified, intrinsic, or introjected. One of the causes of flow motivation is "just because an approach or method worked for someone else does not mean that it will work for you". Self-determination theory is built on the idea that people are actively motivated to pursue their goals.
What are the three components of motivation ?
- Need, Persistence, Goal
- Activation, persistence and intensity
- Intensity, identification, Drive
- Activation, intensity and goal
What are the components of intrinsic motivation?
- Autonomy, Competence, Tendency
- Competence, Mastery, Purpose
- Mastery, Tendency, Competence
- Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose
"Just because an approach or method worked for someone else does not mean that it will work for you" refers to
- one size fits all
- Absurd function approach
- there is no common approach for all
- the approach will work for me
Introjected motivation is
- Anegative internalized motivation
- A positive externalized motivation
- Anegative externalized motivation
- A positive internalized motivation
Self determination theory is developed by:
- Shelley E Taylor
- Deci and Ryan
- Barbara Frederick
- Seligman and Lubomirsky
